Description

Teixuga Tinto 2020 is a top-of-the-range wine from the Dão, made by Caminhos Cruzados — a luxury red with production limited to about 3,000 bottles. At 14.5% alcohol, this single-varietal Touriga Nacional comes from old vines at Quinta da Teixuga.

Grapes: Mostly Touriga Nacional, with a sprinkling of other old-vine varieties.

Vineyards: Old vines at Quinta da Teixuga, aged 50 to 70 years, planted on granite soil.

Winemaking: hand-harvested into 15 kg crates. Hand-sorted on a sorting table. After destemming and crushing, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, with maceration suited to its characteristics.

Ageing: 40 months in new and used French oak barrels. After bottling it aged for about 18 months in bottle.

In the 2020 vintage the base is Touriga Nacional; it's fine and complex on the nose, with disarming clarity and brightness. A super-elegant Touriga, with hidden florals. Very delicate on the palate, with the oak superbly woven into the whole. Pure luxury spread across 3,000 bottles.
