Description
Teso La Monja is the top wine of the Eguren family's Toro project and comes from a single plot of around 1.8 hectares of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Tinta de Toro vines. It ferments in a French oak vat and is made in tiny quantities, making it one of Spain's most expensive wines. This 2019 vintage is a true rarity.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black and red fruit, liquorice, cocoa, spice and well-integrated oak. The palate is broad and firm, with fine-grained tannins, good freshness and a long, deep finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast lamb, suckling pig, red meat or aged sheep's cheese. It is a wine built for long ageing that rewards patience in the cellar.
