Description
Vega Sicilia, founded in 1864 in Ribera del Duero and owned by the Álvarez family since 1982, is Spain's most legendary house, and Único is its great wine. It is a blend of Tinto Fino with a small share of Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for around ten years between barrel and bottle before release. This 2006 vintage is a collector's bottle.
In the glass it shows a deep colour and a nose of ripe black and red fruit, liquorice, cocoa, spice and well-integrated oak. The palate is broad and firm, with fine-grained tannins, good freshness and a long, deep finish.
Decant one to two hours ahead and serve at 16–18 °C with roast lamb, suckling pig, red meat or aged sheep's cheese. It is a wine built for long ageing that rewards patience in the cellar.
