Description
Viña Sastre Pago de Santa Cruz Gran Reserva 2018 is a prestigious red from Ribera del Duero, Spain, made by the renowned Bodegas Hermanos Sastre. Made from 100% Tinta del País (Tempranillo) from vines around 100 years old, it's known for its structure, elegance and great ageing potential.
Recognition of the Winery and "Terroir"
Beyond the scores, the wine is recognised for its exclusivity and production methods:
Single Plot: It's classified as a "Pago" wine, from a single plot with vines nearly 100 years old in La Horra.
Limited Production: Its exclusivity is reinforced by a production of only about 14,000 bottles, released only in years of exceptional quality.
Extended Ageing: The commitment to quality shows in 30 months in barrel (French and American oak) and a long rest in bottle before release.
A selection of 100% Tinta del País from Pago de Santa Cruz in La Horra (Burgos), from vines about 80 years old on clay-limestone soils on the slopes above the Duero and Gromejón rivers. Aged for 30 months in French and American oak barrels. Six rackings. Production of about 3,000 bottles.
1992 was the year the Sastre family decided to found a small winery to make wine from their first 23 hectares of vines. Since then, Viña Sastre has kept a traditional way of growing and winemaking with the utmost respect for the land, seeking quality wines of unique character in La Horra.
