Description
In 1845, on the island of Madeira, William Hinton founded his distillery, aiming to produce rum of the highest quality. In 1882 he took a dominant position in sugar-cane growing and harvesting, and at the end of the 19th century invested heavily in production technology by building Madeira's famous "Engenho", an international benchmark of innovation in the sector.
