Aromas of cassis, plums, pencil shavings and toasty new oak introduce the 2023 Léoville Poyferré, a medium to full-bodied, rich, structured wine with a deep core of succulent fruit framed by sweet, generously extracted tannins. A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, it benefited from some saignée and osmosis for extra concentration. As usual, it's the creamiest and most “modern” in style of the three Léovilles.

Harvest began on 14 September and ended on 5 October, with fermentations at slightly lower temperatures than usual, perhaps a sign of an ongoing stylistic evolution.

With 97 points from James Suckling in his final bottle review, Château Léoville Poyferré 2023 confirms all the expectations raised since the en primeur campaign, establishing itself as one of the benchmarks of the vintage.

From the first contact it shows impressive aromatic purity, with generous notes of ripe plum and cassis, wrapped in remarkable intensity and precision. On the palate it has a harmonious medium to full-bodied structure, supported by silky, creamy, perfectly integrated tannins that give a luxurious texture and exemplary balance.

The finish is long, fresh and vibrant, with captivating elegance and remarkable precision. A wine that combines Léoville Poyferré's characteristic richness and depth with unmatched sophistication, giving pleasure young without compromising its extraordinary potential to develop in bottle.

95 points Wine Spectator

Château Léoville Poyferré 2023 impresses with its concentration, elegance and extraordinary structure. It shows intense aromas of ripe blackberry and blueberry, enriched by notes of brush, liquorice, warm earth and subtle mineral nuances.

On the palate it has depth and precision, with a long, refined finish marked by hints of tobacco, applewood and delicate violet notes.

According to Wine Spectator's James Molesworth, the wine's solid tannic structure ensures excellent ageing potential, allowing it to develop remarkably over the coming years.
