Description
Elijah Craig was an 18th-century Baptist preacher whom tradition credits with the idea of ageing whiskey in barrels charred on the inside, the basis of all bourbon. Heaven Hill in Bardstown, Kentucky, honours him with this Small Batch, blended from a small number of barrels and bottled at 47%.
Matured in new charred American oak and bottled at 47%, it shows vanilla, caramel, nutmeg and oak on the nose. The palate is creamy, with caramel, honey, spice and peat smoke. The finish is long, with oak, spice and caramel.
Excellent neat, over a single ice cube or as the base of an Old Fashioned or a Manhattan. It pairs with smoked ribs, burgers, pecan pie and caramel desserts.
