Description
Suntory’s Hakushu distillery is hidden in a forest on the slopes of Mount Kaikomagatake in the Southern Japanese Alps, and is known as the forest distillery. Pure, cold mountain water and fresh air give rise to a green, herbal and delicately smoky single malt. Distiller’s Reserve, with no age statement, is the house’s reference expression.
Matured in American oak and refill casks and bottled at 43%, it shows fresh grass, mint, green apple and peat smoke on the nose. The palate is light and fresh, with citrus, pear, honey and peat smoke. The finish is medium, with fresh grass, peat smoke and pepper.
An easy, versatile whisky to enjoy neat, on ice or in a refreshing highball. It pairs with grilled fish, seafood, salads and fresh cheeses, and is an excellent choice for anyone discovering the category.
