Description

Kilchoman Sanaig is named after a rocky inlet near the Kilchoman farm distillery on the west side of Islay. It is the darker sibling of Machir Bay: here the share of oloroso sherry casks is much higher, bringing dried fruit, chocolate and a deep sweetness to balance the house’s intense peat.

Matured in oloroso sherry casks and bourbon casks and bottled at 46%, it shows peat smoke, raisins, orange and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate is rich and dense, with peat smoke, red berries, toffee and spice. The finish is long, with peat smoke, dried fig and sea salt.

For lovers of smoke, it is an essential bottle. Drink it neat or with a drop of water, which reveals the sweetness hidden behind the peat. It pairs with oysters, smoked salmon, grilled meats and blue cheese.
