92 points James Suckling, 91 points José Peñin, and 90 points Robert Parker

Pittacum takes us back to its place of origin: 40 hectares of old Mencía vines, spread out in a mosaic of 200 parcels on the mountain slopes, right in the heart of the Bierzo.

This young red awakens pleasant sensations of fresh red fruits and soft spices and seduces with its pleasant juiciness.

James Suckling:
Rich red cherries, currants, and blueberries, with some herbal, stone, and dark chocolate notes on the nose. A medium- to full-bodied Mencía with good richness and density in the midpalate, yet remains fresh and fluid. Firm tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2026.

The Wine Advocate:
The eponymous 2020 Pittacum is toasty and mature, with 14.5% alcohol, reflecting a warm year and aging in used barrels for eight months. It has the profile of wines from the 2000s, with more generous maturation and wood. It finishes dry with abundant tannins that will require more time in the bottle and/or with more intense dishes.
