Quinta da Pellada Tounot Tinto 2021 is an unusual, fascinating red from Portugal's renowned Dão, made by emblematic winemaker Álvaro Castro. The name "Tounot" is a play on words and a direct fusion of the two grapes in this singular blend: Touriga Nacional and Pinot Noir (50% each). It stands out for its bold crossing of Touriga Nacional's structure and strong identity with the elegance, freshness and subtlety typical of French Pinot Noir.

What could the name 2021 Tournot mean? Well, nothing more than a blend of Touriga Nacional and Pinot Noir, 50% each, made traditionally. It aged for 30 months in five-year-old 400-litre oak barrels, and the oak is quite discreet, respecting the wine's character and purity. It's floral and perfumed, elegant and nuanced, complex and deep, with a medium-bodied palate and very fine tannins, 13.3% alcohol, keeping excellent balance and freshness. Who would have thought of blending Touriga with Pinot? Only Álvaro Castro! It was bottled in January 2024.
