Poeira 2021: A Toast to Excellence in the Douro - Vinogrande

Poeira 2021: A Toast to Excellence in the Douro

2 min read Paulo Castro

Poeira 2021 recently earned an impressive 19.5/20 from the prestigious Grandes Escolhas magazine, reaffirming its place as one of the Douro's great ambassadors. This recognition is a milestone not only for the wine but also for its creator, winemaker Jorge Moreira, whose passion and vision have shaped the project since 2001.

Jorge Moreira's Vision

After gaining experience and knowledge over seven vintages as winemaker at Real Companhia Velha, Jorge Moreira felt the need to start a project of his own that would convey his personal vision of the Douro. That ambition gave birth to Poeira, a wine designed to be more than just an expression of the region: a reflection of Moreira's intimate, unique interpretation of terroir.

Located in Provesende, in the heart of the Douro, the project sits on a slope of the Pinhão valley, on the right bank of the river. It is rooted in an old vineyard combining many of the region's traditional grapes with Touriga Nacional, one of the Douro's most emblematic varieties.

The Profile of Poeira 2021

Poeira 2021 captivates with both its aromatic finesse and the depth and precision of its palate. The nose shows notes of black fruit, graphite, tobacco and violets, laced with a balsamic touch that adds freshness and complexity.

On the palate it has great tension and firmness, with a satiny texture that seduces. The tannins are fine, agile and well integrated, delivering balance and elegance. A subtle austerity makes it even more intriguing, with a precise structure that carries into a long, memorable finish.

A Faithful Interpretation of the Douro

More than a wine, Poeira 2021 is the embodiment of a philosophy. Jorge Moreira is known for his meticulous approach, which puts respect for the land and the character of the grapes first. With Poeira there are no compromises: every decision, from vineyard to winery, is guided by the goal of making a wine that conveys the essence of the Douro in a pure, authentic way.

This commitment to excellence shows in every bottle of Poeira 2021, a wine that balances tradition and innovation, power and delicacy. It is true testament to the Douro's potential, in terms of both quality and identity.

Recognition and the Future

The 19.5/20 from Grandes Escolhas recognises not only the quality of Poeira 2021 but also Jorge Moreira's pioneering vision. This wine reaffirms the Douro's place on the international stage, highlighting the region's ability to make wines that are both classic and innovative.

For wine lovers, Poeira 2021 isn't just a recommendation but a must — an invitation to explore the passion, care and authenticity that define this singular project.
