Description

Thibault Liger-Belair Charmes-Chambertin Aux Charmes Grand Cru 2022 is a prestigious red Burgundy, 100% Pinot Noir, made from a tiny 0.30-hectare parcel of old vines planted in 1946.

Producer: Thibault Liger-Belair, from a winegrowing family rooted in Burgundy since the 18th century. Thibault is known for his commitment to quality and for owning some of Burgundy's most prestigious vineyards.

Vineyard origin: The grapes are grown in a specific parcel of Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru known as "Aux Charmes". The Liger-Belair parcel was planted in 1954.

Winemaking: The wine is known for its purity and complexity. The 2022 vintage used 60% whole bunches, adding freshness and tension, and was aged in new oak barrels. These techniques give a wine with significant ageing potential.

2022 vintage: Overall, the 2022 vintage for red Burgundy was considered excellent, combining the fruit and ripeness of a warm season with the freshness of a cooler year.
The Côte de Nuits reds, where this wine comes from, are particularly elegant, with good fruit intensity and a refined texture.

Many winemakers believe the 2022 reds are approachable young but will also age beautifully.

Tasting profile: General characteristics include:

Nose: Aromas of ripe red fruit, violet and earthy notes.

Palate: A full-bodied, elegant and complex wine, with fine-grained tannins and a long finish.

Terroir: The "Aux Charmes" parcel is in the highest section of the Charmes-Chambertin terroir, near the Route des Grands Crus. The limestone marl soil contributes to the wine's mineral notes and elegance.
