Description
Kompassus Grande Reserva Espumante 2017 is a top sparkling wine from the renowned Bairrada region, made with consultant winemaker Anselmo Mendes. It has an aristocratic, dry and hugely complex profile, benefiting from a long period of ageing.
Tasting Notes – Mature and Complex
AromaThe nose is sophisticated and deep, with elegant toasty and pastry notes recalling toast, freshly baked brioche and butter biscuits. These blend harmoniously with toasted nuts, mineral touches and delicate hints of candied fruit and candied orange peel.
On the palate it stands out for the extraordinary finesse of its bubbles — fine, persistent and perfectly integrated. The texture is creamy and silky, with volume, structure and great balance. Vibrant citrus and mineral acidity brings freshness and precision, carrying through to a long, elegant and supremely sophisticated finish.
A sparkling wine made for food, especially oven-roasted fish, fine seafood, Bairrada-style roast suckling pig or intense aged cheeses such as long-aged Parmesan.
The Brand's Track Record
The Kompassus label has shown award-winning consistency across vintages. Earlier editions of this Grande Reserva (such as 2011 and 2013) won Revista de Vinhos' prestigious Excellence Award and Silver Medals at the Portugal Wine Trophy — a standard of quality the 2017 vintage fully maintains.
