The 2023 Léoville Barton is showing magnificently, wafting from the glass with aromas of blackcurrant (cassis), pencil shavings, glowing embers and a discreet touch of new oak. Medium- to full-bodied, supple and multi-layered, it's a deep, dense, classically structured wine with ripe tannins, excellent fruit purity and a persistent, penetrating finish.

It's a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, with 13% alcohol.

The 2022 Léoville Barton is showing brilliantly in bottle, offering aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, ink, cigar box and spice. Medium- to full-bodied, elegant and velvety, it's dense and concentrated, with remarkable energy and persistence. As readers will recall, it's the first vintage made in the estate's new winery, which more than doubled the number of vats, allowing plot-by-plot harvesting and vinification, along with a series of other technical improvements that translate into greater purity and precision.

Rated 97 points by James Suckling, Château Léoville Barton 2023 stands out as an exceptional interpretation of the vintage, marked by precision, elegance and depth.

The critic highlights its extraordinary textural finesse, describing the tannins as “cashmere-like”, a rare tactile signature combining structure and definition with an utterly refined lightness on the palate. It's a medium- to full-bodied wine, remarkably focused, where every element comes through with clarity and balance.

On tasting it shows an engaging, building evolution, expanding progressively to a long, vibrant and completely harmonious finish, described as “seamless” and remarkably persistent.

James Suckling also notes that this expression of geometric precision reflects the third year of using the estate's new high-tech winery, a decisive factor in the level of purity, control and definition achieved in this vintage.
