Alvaro Palacios is one of Spain's "sacred monsters", creator of the legendary L'Ermita and some of the best Priorat wines.

All wines created by Álvaro Palacios, the magician of Priorat, are a guarantee of elegance and refinement, elaborations that have made him a reference in international viticulture and are some of the most desired and valued wines in the world.

The Wine Advocate: Gratallops 2022 is a village wine, "vi de vila" in Catalan, the official category of the Priorat designation of origin. The wine expresses the ancestral blend of local grape varieties, which this year consists of 80% Garnacha, 19% Cariñena and 1% white grapes – Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and Pedro Ximénez – from different vineyards in the village. Like the other wines, it was fermented with part of whole bunches and indigenous yeasts in oak vats, with pumping over and a 31-day maceration. The wine will mature in oval foudres and large oak barrels for 14 months. It is pale, bright, very clear, expressive and elegant, with a great sense of harmony, restrained ripeness and a medium-bodied palate, with very fine tannins and a surprising sense of balance. It may not be extremely complex or deep, but it has a silky texture that makes it very appealing.

James Suckling: This village wine is an aromatic red, with red berries and a hint of minerality. Elegant and firm on the palate, with slightly chewy but mellow tannins. There’s a certain elegance of red fruit that rivals a good pinot, but it’s the Mediterranean Garnacha that dominates. Drink now or cellar. – Zekun Shuai, Senior Editor.
