MOB Gauvé Red 2016 is the star of our selection this week, and its fascinating story begins with the collaboration of three talented winemakers: Jorge Moreira, Francisco Olazabal and Jorge Serôdio Borges. This partnership resulted in a passionate project, rooted in the Dão region, where the common admiration for elegant and fresh wines from the 60s and 70s inspired them to create something special.
Vineyards and Terroir
The vineyards, totaling fifteen hectares, are strategically located in one of the coldest places in Dão, on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, 550 meters above sea level. Composed of 5 hectares of old vines in Gouveia and 10 hectares of vines over 20 years old in Seia, cultivated on granite soil, they use the region's traditional grape varieties.
Varieties
The main peculiarity of Gauvé is the mixture of varieties found in centuries-old vineyards in Gouveia, giving this wine a unique and unparalleled profile. With a predominance of freshness and elegance, it reflects the striking characteristics of the Dão region.
